Meet the Homestead Staff

Homestead for Memory Loss
Specialized Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Programs
by Genesis HealthCare

Dementia services are part of our commitment to helping the elderly achieve a full life across our continuum. Services are based on an integrated holistic approach recognizing that mind and body – cognitive, emotional, and physical health – are interrelated. Impairments in one area, such as the cognitive impairment of dementia, calls for extra effort to keep the emotional and physical aspects of an individual’s function strong and healthy.

The Genesis HealthCare philosophy is to support independence and well being. Dementia services are designed through assessment of each individual’s potential and planning to achieve realistic goals.

The Homestead program features include:

  • individual clinical evaluation
  • an environment with promotes positive emotion, security and well being
  • enriching activities
  • specialized staff with ongoing training
  • prevention and management of challenging behaviors
  • support groups and resource referral services

The Homestead Unit at Granite Ledges of Concord houses 14 apartments which are comprised of private studios and shared studios. Common rooms include the living room and dining room, and there is a full service kitchen which lends itself to baking activities. Residents are able to enjoy walks and outdoor activities in the enclosed courtyard.

The activity program is designed to promote feelings of accomplishment and purpose. All activities are coordinated by and executed by the Homestead activity assistant, and are scheduled throughout the day. Activities include exercise classes, reminisce groups, baking, arts and crafts, as well as musical entertainment.

“We just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate your staff really taking care of our Mom. We can see how much happier she really is being in Homestead. The best part is knowing that not only her medical needs are being met, but also it’s clear that there’s a real effort to keep her socially engaged. With Alzheimer’s taking its toll in so many ways, all of you take away some of the pain, not only Mom’s but ours too.”
